Restaurants & Cafés

Our favourite places on the island — sorted by category. Tap any heading to see what's good and why.

We recommend on food and service, not commission. If a restaurant ever becomes a paid partner, we mark it clearly.
Local Thai Food

ก๋วยเตี๋ยวรอเรือ — Guay Tiew Ro Rua

Many people call this the best noodle soup on the island, and at these prices it would be rude not to seek it out. Order the beef noodle soup. The menu is entirely in Thai — use the Grab link below as a visual menu and just point to what you want.

Good forQuick lunches. Closes around 19:00 and some dishes sell out earlier in the day.

Tai Kik

A locals' favourite with a menu deep enough to eat here a week running and never repeat. The BBQ section is the standout — chicken, pork and fish, properly cooked over charcoal.

Good forCasual lunch or dinner. Consistently good food, day or night.

Spices Bophut

A smarter setting for proper Thai food, with a handful of Western dishes for anyone in the group who needs a break. Order the lamb massaman and the khao soi beef — both highlights of a menu built around fresh ingredients and careful execution.

Good forA relaxed evening with proper Thai cooking.

Western & International

Pizzeria Sorte

The best pizza on Samui — authentic Italian ingredients, properly fired, consistently excellent. The calzone is a standout, and the homemade tiramisu is the right way to finish.

Good forLunch or dinner. Best eaten in, straight from the oven.

Tito's Bitchin' Burritos

Mix-and-match tacos, burritos and quesadillas, all done with strong flavours and quality ingredients. Building a flight of tacos is the best way to try a few things in one sitting.

Good forCasual lunch or dinner. Also delivers if you'd rather stay in the villa.

Smash Burger

One of the top burger spots on the island — proper smash technique, quality ingredients, consistent execution. Order the Gringo Smash or the Classic Smashburger.

Good forA relaxed casual dinner that's a clear step above fast food.

Coffee & Brunch

A Slow Bar — Just Another Coffee

A quiet hideaway tucked off the main roads, surrounded by nature, serving genuinely excellent coffee. The owner is friendly and gives proper recommendations — and the macarons are worth the trip on their own.

Good forA morning coffee or quick caffeine stop. Coffee and dessert focused, not a full breakfast menu.

Izzy's Specialty Coffee

Premium beans, careful brewing, and both classic and unusual varieties. Pricier than most cafés on the island and the quality justifies it. The desserts are also a strong choice.

Good forA refined coffee stop or a slow, quality treat.

KOB — King Of Bread

The strongest Western-style breakfast and brunch on Samui, with quality coffee and smoothies on the side. Wide-ranging menu, consistently well executed, and a branch close to wherever you're staying.

Good forA relaxed brunch or an easy coffee with friends.

Flo Coffee Roaster

Stylish, modern café serving high-quality coffee and snacks. The Chaweng branch is especially well-located, with great brunch options nearby and standout açaí bowls.

Good forCoffee dates, casual catch-ups, or getting some work done in a comfortable spot.

Dining with a View

The Cocoon

One of the best views on Samui, paired with a stylish setting and live music most nights. A higher-end option compared to most restaurants on the island, and the food lives up to the surroundings.

Good forA date or a more refined meal with family or friends.

Treehouse Silent Beach Restaurant

A relaxed beachfront spot with strong food and genuine value. The khao soi is the standout dish — order it.

Good forEvening dining with friends or family. Not directly sunset-facing, but still a scenic coastal setting as the day winds down.

Coco Tam's

A Fisherman's Village highlight — beachfront setting, quality food and drinks, and a properly lively atmosphere. The nightly fire shows at 19:15 and 21:00 are part of the appeal. Order the pizza and the lobster “Angel Hair”.

Good forLively evening dining with friends or family.

Things no one tells you

Skip Chaweng on a Saturday night.

Unless you want a loud, touristy main drag. Bophut and Fisherman's Village are where the grown-ups go for dinner. Ask us for the specific street stalls you'd miss otherwise.

Don't book scooters from the guy on the corner.

Cheap rentals often come with dodgy insurance. We use two rental shops who actually check their bikes and cover you properly. 50 baht a day more, but worth it.

Skip Chaweng beach if you want quiet — go to Nana.

Chaweng beach is busy and over-built. Nana Beach is a short drive away, far less crowded, and a much better choice for a relaxed swim and a slow afternoon. Ask us for the pin and the right spot to drop a towel.

Dental tourism is real — and excellent here.

A full set of veneers runs about a third of UK prices, at European-trained clinics. If you're staying a week or more, it's worth a free consult at the clinic we work with.

Angthong is better by private boat.

The big group tours mean 80 people at each stop. A private speedboat from 6,000 baht gets you the same places before anyone arrives. Split across the villa, often cheaper per person.

Ask for "farang mai pet" at restaurants.

It means "not spicy for farang." Thai chefs otherwise assume you want it Thai-level, which is a different league. Your stomach will thank us.

Hands-off villa management, done properly.

Boutique-scale management for foreign villa owners in Bophut and Choeng Mon. We're small on purpose — a handful of villas, personally looked after, not a factory.

Boutique full management
15% of rental income

Most Samui agencies charge 20–25%. We take fewer villas and look after them properly — and you only pay when you earn.

We're taking on two more villas this month.

A small team who actually live here.

We're a British-Thai partnership based in Bophut. One of us is Thai and handles all the local side in their own language — the cleaners, vendors, restaurants and clinics that make a villa feel properly cared for. The other moved here from the UK and knows exactly what a foreign guest or villa owner expects, because we've been both.

We started SiamStay because we watched friends rent villas that were beautiful but had a welcome pack from 2018 and a WhatsApp number nobody answered. Villa owners deserve better than a 25% commission agency that treats their home as inventory, and guests deserve more than a Google search.

So we made the thing we wished existed.
